Armatura

In 2015, Armatura was removed from the forests of Cameroon alongside 118 other scorpions of the threatened species Pandinus dictator. Bound for the United States, they entered a transnational trade network through which they were to be sold as pets via a Facebook page. At Roissy Airport, customs interrupted their circulation. From trafficked commodity, Armatura became a seized animal, then a photographic subject, named by the artist. Through these successive displacements, he shifted between merchandise, evidence, specimen, image, and fiction. His existence nevertheless remains irreducible to the forms through which he is made visible.
